Autumn has fallen onto the scene and this means the recrudescence of anomalous accessories, bangin’ boots and luxurious layers: Three of my most adored trends. The vest is one wardrobe staple that allows for a seamless shift into the season. This piece maintains pliancy and can easily be rocked from summer into fall and beyond. The queen of fashion Rachel Zoe exhibits how her flair for styling can be the supreme educator. She dons this fur number with class and confidence. Never fear, this piece takes on many different forms allowing for a plethora of options suitable for every fashionista. The fur form is paradisiacal for the fall and winter seasons. It’s never too early to catch spring fever…especially if it means new shoe trends for 2010

Have you ever noticed that designer runway shows are always a season ahead? Just when we are starting to break out our favorite summertime sandals, Valentino and VonFurstenburg are filling fashion week with fall boots and menswear inspired loafers. Good news gals, the same runway rule has been applied as we start our transition out of the warm and into the cold. Givenchy and Burberry debuted their spring/summer 2010 shoe trends and it has us anxious to move the boots in…and right back out.

Last season brought the gladiator sandal to ultimate popularity with cutout pumps and platform wedges right behind. Although the same trends will be the foundation for spring footwear, prepare to see significant embellishments to the basics. Braids, twists, bows, buckles and studs will all make a grandiose appearance on our feet come May.

So, what are the top three trends that should find a permanent place in your closet? Start saving some budget for high heel gladiator sandals, heavy metal platforms and some feminine florals.

Gladiator sandals are back with a vengeance. Despite being coined the “worst trend” of last season these Grecian beauties aren’t running scared from the runway. Designers will not only bring this trend back in a flash, they have revamped the sandal in a totally fierce way. You are going to see platform heels, knee-high straps and lots bold, dynamic colors. Wear these with caution, though! They are very trendy so it’s best not to make these your “go-to” pair.

Heavy metal will make its way off the stage and on to your feet. Zippers, studs, buckles, chains and snaps will make their debut on everything from pumps to sandals. It’s true the rocker look is not the most feminine, but they are totally cool and definitely sheik. Just like gladiators these elaborately decorated kicks also need a special soiree. How heavy the metal is on your choice pair will determine where you can wear them. Black strappy platforms with metallic studs will look ultimately fierce with a leather jacket and dark skinny denim. Rock them to your favorite concert or a night on the town with the girls. Cork wedges with gold chain links will look fabulous with white pants and nautical accents to a brunch or afternoon picnic. Don’t let the metal intimidate you –its very rock n’ roll, but we all have a little rebel in us.

Feminine florals take a leap out of the garden on into your closet. Spring and summer will bring bushels of gorgeous bouquets – for your feet. Shoes are going to feature all the most beautiful petals whether it is a beaded rose on your wedge or a stack of daisies on your t-strap. These uber-girly shoes are the perfect accessory to plain summer dresses and solid suits. And don’t worry; you’ll still keep the sexiness of your towering stilettos even with the flowers. These embellishments add just enough femininity without being too over the top.

It seems this season will be about adding some personality to your feet – let the shoes do the talking. It’s important to note that the basics will still have considerable presence in the form of patent pumps, strappy sandals and of course the ever-functional flat. But get ready to mix it up. Designers aren’t holding back on the creativity, and as fashionistas, we shouldn’t be afraid to take a risk and put a sassy foot forward.

Get ready for fall fashion with three tips to smarter shopping

Fall is upon us and its time for fashionistas to prepare for new trends. This means cashmere sweaters, tweed trousers and fantastic boots. Thinking of all the new fall fashions, and the necessary budget probably has you wondering whats the smartest way to get what you want. Fear not stylistas, with three simple tips you'll be ready to shop smarter and look fab when the brisk fall air finds it's way to your fair city.

Tip #1: Get in your closet! Pick a Saturday and clean it out, but only throw away the truly trash-worthy. Keep the basics that you know will transition nicely to cooler weather. Cotton tees, lace camis, light cardigans and fitted denim are all essential basics that will get plenty of use come fall and winter. Spring and summer dresses can take up temporary residence in the back of the closet - time to retire anything with pastel colors and bright flowers. Fall is going to bring deep gem tones and the ever famous black/white combo is making a fierce comeback. Make some space, you'll need it! While you're at it, get rid of any flats and/or sandals that have had their fair share of walking...its the season of the bootie and over-the-knee boots. But, make sure to keep a couple pair of flats, they are the perfect alternative when you aren't in the mood for heels. Finally, make some room for scarves. They made a cameo late last season and they are back for round two. Black, gray and cream are must have colors, but keep your eyes peeled for dark purples and reds...they look amazing with hounds tooth! Once you finish the grand closet cleanse, evaluate the inventory. Know what you have and make a list of what you need. Remember, the goal is to shop smart so only list the essential items that you'll need for fall...and a couple items that you are totally lusting over. Whats a shopping trip without a splurge item or two?

Tip #2: Set aside a seperate budget for all things fashion. Before you hit the store to buy the $270 McQ sweater, make sure you can pay the bill! Nothing is worse that buyer's remorse and with all the great new trends about to hit shopping with caution will be difficult. Have an honest look at your funds and set aside a special budget for clothes, shoes and all other fashion musts. Contribute a little cash every paycheck and you'll have some extra spending money for your fashion wish list. Once you have a decent "nest egg", try to make it last until after Christmas. That's when the sales are at their best! In the meantime, you shouldn't need too many new things since you can ask Santa for some help. Plus, the trends will likely take a shift in early February and you'll want to make sure your cards are armed and chargable when you start eying your faves.

Tip #3: Before you buy uber trendy at full price, consider the alternatives. Yes, of course its ideal to tell everyone that you're wearing Louboutin's, but are a super trendy pair of bondage booties really worth the $1200 price tag? If you want to have a full fall wardrobe, the answer is no! There is nothing wrong with buying the high-fashion items, just make sure you can wear them more than three times...in your life! Booties, liquid leggings and fringe are great examples of trends with a limited life span. They are totally hot for a while but then they fade and get tagged "vintage". Before you spend your entire budget on exclusive items like these, shop around! You are going to find more budget-friendly alternatives and get back some room to spend. Save your spluring for items that have staying power like a leather jacket, black patent pumps and the perfect little black dress. These items will be staples to your wardrobe and worth the investment if they fit properly. Nothing is better than a jacket that makes you feel fierce and a pair of pumps that really work the booty.

CAPTURED!! - a velour tracksuit hiding in the back of my sister's closet. O. My. G. She claims she hasn't worn this monstrosity in "years" but I wonder - is she sneaking around in this disaster at night - a secret matchy match party featuring the number 2 fashion crime of my life? I hope not, because as I recall (ahem, read post below) the only way a track suit is acceptable is if you are wearing it to the track - to run, jog or exercise. Notice, I did not list any of the following: running out for coffee, brunch with the ladies, jet setting through any airport.

Dearest sister, my one and only sibling - your style is impeccable and I hope this "fashion don't" was simply forgotten in your last closet clean out. I fully believe in your ability and I know this is not representative of your unique style. And because I know the level of your fashion sense, I am confident this little number has already found a permanent home in the garbo!

Its official, the once mundane and simply functional elements known as zippers are moving up in the fashion world and have adopted a new life as edgy, hardware detailing. This minute yet intricate strand of hardware possesses the clout to append the perfect touch of sass to any look. Personally, I couldn’t be happier about this innovative explosion. Now that the zipper is more than just a lyric in an adored childhood song it is time to embrace the trend. Rock your hardware with class and select only one piece with teeth. Zip it up dolls! XOXO

death to the track suit!!

Ladies of fashion, it is time once again for me to discuss one of my ultimate fashion don’ts…first it was crocs and now…drum roll please….the track suit. This little getty up has caused not only myself, but some of my most fashionable friends great confusion. WHY do women insist on wearing a suit that, as it’s name suggests, is made for the track? Okay, it all matches and fine, it’s comfortable, but what fashion trend are you exemplifying when you don running gear to brunch with the girls? Honestly gals, read these words and seal them to memory – track suits are made for the track. Yes, I said it - made for a brisk morning jog or an evening run, not for a trip to grocery store or stop by the spa. This fashion disaster has officially retired (because I said so) and it should now take up permanent residence on the very back rack of your closet, next to the hawaiin print moo moo and the magenta crocs.

Sorry gals, even the “couture” Juicy track suit that you wear to the airport is a no-go. You know my feelings on “rolling out of bed” fashion at the airport, and the ole track suit falls right smack in the middle of that category. The track suit is not flattering, you can’t make it stylish (no matter how cool you think the cami underneath that horrible zip up jacket is) and just because it’s comfortable doesn’t mean it should be your default choice when you have nothing to wear! Remember, that silly little track suit belongs on the dang track.

Okay, now that the velour/nylon/cotton mess has died, it’s time to settle into more appropriate “comfort” wear. You may be wondering what my “default” outfit is, and as a self-proclaimed fashionista, I have decided to lead by example. Whether I’m jet setting to a big city, running to my favorite fresh food market, skipping to a facial or leaving for a day o’ shopping, I always reach for my favorite jeans, a deep-v tee (ahem, American Apparel of course) and my leopard print gladiator sandies. Fashionable, functional and flattering…no track suit necessary. Simple pieces like dark denim, tailored shorts, flowing tank tops and a deep v-necks give you room to move and the chance to display your best assets. An embellished flat will keep you comfortable all day and give a little personality to your overall look. Who can argue with a hot ass, tan cleavage, foxy legs and/or a fab shoe…anyone? See below for a PERFECT “on the go” outfit and check out those gams!! I rest my case.

As I have said many times before, wearing functional clothes does not mean that you have sacrifice style. Yes, I understand that you are a working mom of 8, and yes, I understand that when you rock corporate attire 5 days a week you want to “slum” it on the weekend…but honestly, the second you justify the “slummy mummy” look is the second you’ve officially let yourself go! Being a mama or being superwoman does not mean that you can’t enjoy the perks of how fashion makes women feel....stylish, creative, sexy, feminine!! So, the next time that you have a million things on your to-do list and zero time to finish, fight to the urge to venture to the back of your closet where the fashion no-no’s live…I promise that if you put on something that is stylish (whether its your fav jeans or a super cute sundress), and lets you navigate comfortably through the day (leave the heels at home, ladies!) you will totally have the confidence of a fashion do gooder– and all the dudes will totally check you out in the grocery store!

for the love of louboutin

Hello fashion divas - yes, its true the blonde is back in action after a minor hiatus/vacation/escape to Chicago! My time here has made me realize two things: 1) fashion in downtown Chicago is impeccable and 2) dudes DO notice fancy footwear. Thank. Heavens. The attention paid to my shoe choices this weekend have motivated me to write about my footwear obsession.... I freely admit that shoes are my drug of choice and I have no plans on seeking rehabilitation for this addiction. The truth is I rarely walk into a store and leave without a pair of shoes...luckily I have been fortunate enough to have a career that provides financial support for my habit. However, with my recent decision to pursue a higher education, my funds have taken a significant hit. This assassination of my dispoasble income will force me to cut back on my shoe purchases and put the current 100+ pairs to extra good use. UGH. And, if budget cuts aren't enough, I'd like to personally thank Saks Fifth Avenue for kicking me while I am down. Just when I had started to accept the fact that shoes would be taking a back seat to more importnat things like oh, grad school, our friends in the Saks e-newsletter department had to send the edition featuring the love of my shoe life....Christian Louboutin. As. IF. Of course I clicked and of course the world's most amazing shoes were taking over my computer screen. I shop for Louboutin's fairly regularly and every time I decide I'm going to pull the trigger, I can never decide which ones to splurge on. Its a big investment after all and I want to make the best decision. Do I go all out and get something really sassy and unique (not practical) or do I spend $700 on a shoe that is classically beautiful and will be useful for more than just special occassions? Tough call; so tough in fact that its the sole reason I don't own a pair of Louboutins. C. Loubie has a way with the footwear - the trademark red heel, amazing structure, unprecednted embellishements, one of a kind booties and seasonless pumps. How can you go wrong, really? My entire closet could be full of Louboutins and I'd never miss a beat - there's a shoe for every season, every occassion...I get warm fuzzies just thinking about all the outfits I could create around a pair of these beauties. Work, play, date night, holidays...endless. Don't those cut-out booties just make you melt? Talk about leaving a lasting impression....sighhhhh Thanks to this blog I am able to vent my struggles with high fashion due to lack of appropriate funding - I am also able to shop the designer collections and pretend like I can actually afford these untouchables. This time around it was much easier - since it's obvious I won't be purchasing new Louboutins anytime in the next 2 years, (ahem, happy graduation, here are your new shoes) I decided to pick my top 6 from the latest line. They are impeccably designed and each of them perfectly serves a function for some occassion in my fabulous life (i'm a dreamer). There you have it ladies, footwear at its finest. Someday I'll marry one of the aforementioned dudes who notices and appreciates my shoes. I can only hope he will have no issues helping me purchase $1200 patent booties that I will probably only wear 5 times. But, he'll love me, which means he'll love my dirty little shoe habit...right? You're Not at the Beach

Once again graced with an incredible opportunity to attend a VIP Celebrity Charity Shopping Event through Buzznet I was able to pull on my spectator pants and witness fashion bliss. The event was hosted by Chic Little Devil, a saucy showroom located on the rooftop of an eleven story structure in downtown Los Angeles. Not only do they house some of the most prestigious designers (most available for sale) but they also offer one-of-a-kind rooftop views (convenient for photo shoots) of the stellar LA skyline. This particular event included tricked out drinks, tasty hors de oeuvres, eclectic accessories, top-of-the-line frocks and fashion industry experts dressed to the nines…well, most of them that is. We spotted one fashion blunder who nearly instigated a fashion halt to the designer savvy shindig. It was almost as though she entered the party through the haunted door of the nineties past. It’s 2009 and the best way to bare your abdomen is in a bikini, in a completely apposite location of course. There are better body parts to reveal if you’re looking to make a sassy or somewhat sexy appearance. For instance, try flaunting your shoulders, back, collarbone or glamorous gams. Any of these options is the ideal way to seize the attention of any onlookers without creating an over-the-top scene. You will be seen as classy and alluring rather than skanky and looking for attention. Keep this in mind especially during the summer months ladies. Reveal yourself! XOXO

NORMALLY, I never recommend white anything...

...but for this particular project, I decided that I was willing to step out of my comfort zone. Plus, I trust my sense of style enough to know that I could probably find fabulous pieces (ego much? lol) even though white is NEVER my first choice when it comes to shoes, dresses and handbags.

When my friend Henri wrote me and asked what she should wear to an all white party in Vegas (cha-ching! sign me up!) two things happened: 1) I was flattered that she wanted to hire me as her temp stylist and 2) I got totally motivated because she is tan and gorgeous and will so rock white in the city of sin. I gave it some thought and figured I should probably give her two choices (because let's face it, we all end up overpacking, just in case we might change our mind) - a fierce pant suit ensemble and a glam dress option. Before I show you my picks let me remind you all that under regular circumstances I would not choose all-white anything, ever. I like contrast and color, very much, and excluding them from my wardrobe rarely happens. But, in the name of Vegas and making sure Henri is belle of the ball, game on. Option Number 1: A fierce pant/jacket combo with metallic accessories...

Let's start at the top; the jacket is perfect for summer - crisp white and shorter sleeved. This modified blazer will give you the classy sophistication you need to pull this look off but keep you from looking corporate at a party (in Vegas no less). I paired the jacket with fab straight leg trousers from the Banana - I've worn 'em, I love 'em and I highly recommend 'em. I chose a straight leg because white is not slimming - just trying to give it to you straight ladies. A wider leg white pant means your legs looks wider and really, who wants that? Stick to a snug fit around the bum (not too tight, but just right) and a straight cut - it will elongate your legs. Shop carefully ladies, white can be done you just have to choose wisely and if its too tight go. up. a. size! The top is a halter with some feminine detailing. When you whip that jacket off you will send off some sexy lady vibes and definitely turn some heads. Suits walk a fine line between boring and fierce - tops that have unexpected details (ahem, a bare back) give traditional office wear a perfect party flare. Finally, I chose a sassy little chrome clutch and matching d'orsay sandals...I never choose white shoes, they make your feet look big and they always look too casual. Metallic is a little more rock and roll and that's my preference nine times outta ten. Note: platform heels are an absolute must with white pants. It will lift the booty and give your gams some added length.

Option Number 2: A sexy little white dress with edgy accessories

This picture is worth a thousand words. Why did I choose these pieces you ask? One word, three syllables...FAB. U. LOUS. The dress is modern grecian - flattering on almost every body type, even those of us with little boobies. The criss-cross front will draw just the right amount of attention to the twin lady lumps, plus the empire waist and the flowing silky material is elegant and sexy! I chose a caged gladiator heel to keep the Roman theme rolling, plus, this lighter shade of silver will look amazing on a sun kissed leg. The funky mirrored clutch will add the right amount of edge and lend some personality to the overall look. This option is simple but totally buzzworthy. Not only will you look like you just walked out of fashion week, you are sure to be the reason all the girls at the party start jealously whispering about you. This outfit is perfect for a little Vegas party - white hot!

Alright, the outfit is chosen, but what about accessories? As I mentioned before, I like color, especially if I going monochromatic. However, since its a white party, we have to stick to the theme - I don't want to be responsible for causing a party foul. I like to play by the rules! I say, keep it simple - less is more in this case.

The jewels I chose will go with either outfit - I kept the design pretty minimal but made sure they were "statement" pieces. Bracelets are pretty ordinary and tend to go unnoticed unless they are super unique. For the sake of always wanting to be extraordinary, I'd stack three or four of those diamond stunners on my wrist. It will be unexpected super fly! The earrings are pretty classic, but they'll add the perfect sparkle to your ears when you give your hair a girly flip. I know, these choices aren't very outside the box, but I don't apologize. It's a white party and you need some kind of extra sparkle, plus, white jewelry would look cheap and it might throw you into the "overkill" zone...ew.

My all white shopping trip has come to an end! If you have a "White Party" coming up, I hope you find these tips helpful - if not, maybe you will get ambitious and rock all white to some other summer function! Even though I'm not a number one fan of the color, it's great for this season - crisp, clean and fresh. I do admit that I love white denim with bright colored tops and raffia wedges. Steal From the Rich

Eight, the number of bruises that swathe my body as a result of my recent hands on, manhandling of weighty possessions and boxes as I single handedly (with the help of some grand people) moved myself from downtown Los Angeles to the beach. Yes that’s right, I now reside merely 20 steps from ocean bliss and while I fell into an unacceptable neglect to fashion followers around the world I vow to climb on the consistency wagon and get back in the fashion game. However, enough about me; now I want to spotlight a high-end, saucy line created by two stellar designers right here in sunny California! The intricately detailed pieces are generally exclusive to the runway and those of Daddy Warbucks status. While the line is inadequately priced for those of us in reality, I possess a splendid amount of appreciation for the designers and find momentous inspiration projected into my wardrobe.

One of my recent favorites is this Rodarte dress made famous by Reese Witherspoon at the Monsters vs. Aliens premiere in Los Angeles. The structure, fabric and style are borderline eccentric but that is part of the charm and fascination in the dress. The fabrics are uniquely textured and appealing to the eye which is cause for the constant attention from onlookers. Additionally, the manipulation of the material is inimitable making the possessor truly striking. Now it’s time to steal from the rich and give to the poor. Look for these distinguished features in your wardrobe to drape yourself in designer riches (or so it will seem). Slip into your most luminous ensemble and shine…make them drool! XOXO Brunette

Yes gals, you heard it here first…being “fashionable” doesn’t necessarily only mean that you have impeccable taste when you shop till you drop. It also means that you care about your overall wellness – in other words, you should always put a fresh face forward. If your skin is glowing, clothes will look even better on you, you’ll carry yourself more confidently and well let’s face it, people will notice. When you make an appointment for your treatment, you’ll meet Ms. Sara Berens – spa extraordinaire and one of the most rad chicks I’ve met! Sara is founder and owner of Luster Spa and she is the mastermind behind all her services – from waxing to massage, this lady is a true master of her craft! She has been in this industry for 10+ years and it shows. She is beyond knowledgeable when it comes to skin care and she is passionate about what she does – something I admire greatly about her. In short, she had me at hello! She didn’t even have to give me the facial – I was already a fan!

BUT, since I had made the trip out there, and my skin was screaming for some attention, I let her work her “Luster Magic”. She gave me a 75-minute custom facial starting with a steam treatment, followed by an amazing skin repair mask. While the mask gave my skin some love, Sara did a mini massage – AH-mazing. The facial ended with another rejuvenation treatment and, as an added bonus, Sara cleaned up my slightly crazed eyebrows. She did an amazing job – a little shaping and elimination of the blonde uni-brow was just what I needed. Needless to say, one week post facial my skin is still glowing, break-outs have been totally minimized and I’m wearing less concealor – which is a HUGE relief since I hate wearing a lot of make up in the summer. I think I’ve thanked Sara about fifty times since I left, but seriously, she’s amazing and her facial is to. die. for.

The Reason Heels were Introduced...

Check out these foam scaffolding beauties. Yes, I’m CLEARLY kidding! This is one eyesore I hope to never happen upon again. I spotted a woman in stilts similar to these yesterday during my occasional jaunt to Yogurtland (much like Pinkberry...utterly delish!). I failed in my stealth attempt to capture a photo of this monstrosity; something I regret terribly because this “fashion don’t” was a true treat! However, I don’t want to expose myself. I’m working on my ability to snap a pic in a surreptitious manner, but that’s beside the point. If only you could have seen the look in its entirety. Instead I’ll focus on the towering excuse for a flip flop. Why someone ever thought it was kosher to fasten some straps to the world’s tallest slabs of foam is beyond me. Unless you recently joined the circus I don’t fully understand the need for these. I understand the desire for those who may be somewhat vertically challenged to find kicks with elevation an essential but choose one; flip flops or heels! Embrace your stature…you don’t need to be Eiffel tower tall at all times, it’s okay to relax one day in a delightful sun dress and flips.

Instead, on a casual day opt for flat sandals or flip flops. There are infinite possibilities but the simplicity and ease of a flip flop is often unassailable. My favorites? Havianas, they come in oodles of colors and patterns. They’re so basic, but sturdy AND flattering. It doesn’t appear as though you are trolling around in space boots. Perfect for a day at the beach or paired with a comfortable tee and jeans.

If you want the elevation of a saucy heel with the stability of the space shoe try out a WEDGE! They allow you to walk in heels effortlessly. These Jessica Simpson braided splendors provide the simplicity of a slip on and the sass of a “how it should be done” platform. Pair these with a sundress or comfortable tee and jeans as well for a little more spice than the flips. So please, unless you’re planning your exodus to the spherical, cratered rock in the sky spare us all from the twinge of the moon boot! Rocking the Red Carpet!

Last night my Loubies graced the red carpet with the likes of Ed Westwick, Anna Lynn McCord, and Steve-O at the Young Hollywood Awards. No, I was not workin’ it for some prime paparazzi attention in front of the step and repeat. Puh-lease! Instead I was behind the scenes as press with the supremely saucy company I’m interning for, BuzzMedia…LOVE them! That’s right; I was able to witness all of the fashion triumphs as well as the fashion blunders first hand. From the sparkle of every jewel to the shine of every shoe it was a fashion aficionada’s candy store, and not all of the candy was fresh. However, I found the most delicious look to be rocked by Evan Rachel Wood. To be honest, I wasn’t too familiar with this delightful diva prior to the Hollywood event. Her edgy and risk taking style really caught the attention of my peepers, changing my quick-to-judge opinion instantly. Many of the frocks toddling down the carpet were safe and slightly lackluster so a little gamble was just the refreshing dose of relief needed by a fashion devotee like me! Notice how she takes the look to another level without creating a cluttered, over-the-top disaster. The dress is a workable black covered top to bottom with silver stones, larger black and silver gems framing the neck, metal and hardware detailing in the belt, and structured shoulders with feather accents that really adds some flare. It sounds overwhelming but couldn’t work better. She played the rest of the look flawlessly with simple yet sassy black platform pumps, and a subtle but still edgy gunmetal case style clutch. Finally, she appropriately went barely there with the accessories, swept her locks back to lessen the distraction, and painted on a blue smoky eye to compliment the whole look. TA TA! The epitomy of apposite edginess. Do it yourself fashion vixens: Step out of your monotonous box, and pull on some dazzle pants (or dress in this case)…Rock and Roll! I want to kiss you...with my purple pout...

Happy Monday lovelies! So, I know we spend a lot of time on fashion “must-do’s”, but after watching my favorite pop songstress Lady Gaga’s uber-racy new video LoveGame, I thought this would be the perfect time to change the course and talk about other ways to be fashionable. Enter the beautician…Lady G’s make-up in this video is so glam and totally perfect for summer. It’s light, fresh and it utilizes the season’s hottest color – purple! Love, love, LOVE. As a blonde myself, I have been itching to try this look for approximately four days and counting. Even though me and Gaga are blonde, I’m not counting brunettes out – this look is versatile and it will be fantastical on you too! So, how can you get this frosty purple make-over? I did a little shop shop on the world wide web and found all of the products you’ll need to channel our girl Lady G. First, let’s start with the pout –try the the Lip Attitude Star lipstick in mauve scandal (#10) from my fav beauty supply stop, Sephora. This has some sparkle but its also slightly sheer so it won’t look too cartoonish. And. speaking from experience, the Sephora brand products are great – I highly recommend them, especially when I’m shopping for specialty cosmetics that I will only use a few times. They are affordable and they last! After your pout is totally kissable, focus on the eyes – the windows to your soul (puke!) Try the Colorful strass mono eyeshadow from Sephora in purple shimmer (#15) over a layer of the jumbo eye pencil in Violet (505Y). The jumbo eye pencil will create a cool metallic base for the shadow so that it stays put and doesn’t fade when you hit the party scene. Remember, the more shadow you apply the darker it will appear so only apply enough to get an obvious purple tint to your eye. Too much make-up is never attractive…we don’t want to cover your beauty, we want to enhance it! After you get the purple party on your eyes, line your lids with my all time favorite make-up product from M.A.C – the Fluidliner in Black Track. Create a sexy cat eye on you top eye lid and finish it off with a thin black line on the bottom. Don’t go overboard with the liner though, we want to keep the focus on the girliness of the purple shadows. This liner will stay put all night and you won’t have to worry about checking to the mirror to see if it’s running down your face. It’s not. I promise! To finish off the eyes, paint your lashes with this new mascara from Ulta Cosmetics –LastBlast Lux by CoverGirl. I swear by this mascara; it doesn’t run or smear, and the lux line is especially fancy because it has hints of sparkle in the tube so when you apply it to your lashline you will get instant eye color enhancement. Work those baby blues…or greens, or browns… And finally, my beauty must-do for the summer, and the perfect accessory to this frosty summer look - the bold brow. As a blonde I suffer from “light blonde eyebrow” syndrome. Fixable, yes but I’d rather just have dark eyebrows, seriously. That said, I am obsessed with a bold brow – we all want what we can’t have, right? Well fear not “LBE’s”, I found the secret sauce - the ultimate tool to give the perfect faux bold brow, Benefit Cosmetics Instant Brow Pencil. Just trace your brow line with this pencil a few times to get the desired shade and wah-la - a perfect bold brow to offset the lighter shades of your make up. There you have it ladies, the Lady Gaga Purple Ice Princess makeover. Now go play the LoveGame – and don’t forget, we don’t hate that game or the players! Bringing the disco ball to life… summer sequins, learn them, love them!!

That’s right, I said it and I don’t apologize – sequins might be my favorite new trend for the summer.  The MTV Movie Awards were last weekend in LA, and since my fashionable butt was watching all the red carpet action in said city,  I feel it’s necessary to pull my favorite look of the evening and take it from the red carpet to your closet.  I already know what most of you are thinking, sequins? Really?  You probably have visions of froofy dance costumes circa the fifth grade talent show or the outfit trapeze flyers wear under the big top.  But fear not fashion students, sequins don’t have to be scary.  In fact, they can be totally fabulous if you choose pieces that are subtle and well accessorized.  If you choose a heavily sequined dress, tone down the sparkly baubles and if you choose a fully sequined bag, choose a dress that has hints of the sequin shine.  Let’s have a look at my favorite MTV award-show look – Ms. Sienna Miller.  She chose a superb hunter green sparkled mini-dress with  chrome t-strap sandals and an understated white envelope clutch.  The dress + sandals +  the clutch = a winning combination for the event and a permanent place in my “style envy” book.  Her wavy wind-tossed blonde locks and the neutral matte make-up ensure that all attention is focused on her brilliant green dress and her ridiculously gorgeous gams. She has perfectly off-set the bold dress by adding accessories that enhance her main piece without creating unnecessary distractions.  Take notes ladies, Sienna has passed “Sequins 101”.   Props to you Ms. Miller, I am a huge fan.

By this point I hope you’re itching to try this look on the next girls night out, so I’ve taken the liberty of doing some online shopping (don’t worry, it was my PLEASURE) to find an equally dazzling sequin dress (that works within your budget).  I’ve also made sure to provide some guidance on shoes and accessories – I know it can be difficult for a regular night out, I can only imagine the stress you might feel when working with a dress full of sparkles!  Accessorizing can be quite the balancing act and you do NOT want to be the girl who looks like she rolled around in a second-graders glitter/glue project.  Drum roll please…..

 Start with this darling mini-dress from my favorite UK stop – asos.com.  It’s got a $143 price tag, but worth every penny.  This all-over sequined piece is a member of the Asos BLACK line and its presence in your summer wardrobe will guarantee your position as center of attention. The embellished shift features a plunging V-back (steals my heart!) also so when you turn to walk away, all eyes will remain locked on your high-fashion frock. 

 

I chose a pretty sassy shoe for this dress, but my thought was, if we are going for it – let’s go all out.  This strappy black pump  (from my main  man Steve Madden) will provide a strong anchoring element to the light silver/white combo on the dress.  Plus, multiple straps will create a peek-a-boo effect around your ankle and your legs will look miles long – a la Sienna!  This shoe is uber feminine and screams “sexy” in a very rock ‘n’roll way.  They are the perfect topping to this sequined sundae and I promise you will wear these over and over since they transition beautifully from summer to fall.  Great on a tan leg when the sun is shining and functional with a pair of patterned tights when the leaves begin to change.

Finally, the question that plagues those of you who fear the journey into your jewelry box – how much sparkle is TOO much sparkle?  I chose two pieces that I think compliment the super sequined dress perfectly.  One has mega-personality and provides a punch of color to this otherwise neutral get-up, and the other is a cocktail ring big enough to punch some lights out.  The snake bracelet by Betsey Johnson has sporadic gems along gold enamel so you’ll get a shiny, colorful pop without overwhelming your dress.  Then, top the whole look off with this super-sparkler - a cocktail ring in the same shades as the dress.  This bauble promises to provide the finger bling you crave without throwing you into the “overdone” category.

For those of you who aren’t ready to run full speed with the sequin-obsessed, here are a few items that will allow you to introduce this trend into your look at a slower pace.  Beginners, try adding this sequin clutch to your fav LBD or the sheik white suit (with a black  lace cami) hanging in your closet – toss on a pair of sky-high metallic sandals and you’ll be ready to paint the town pink!  Intermediates, try this sequin animal print top.  It’s definitely a little risqué, but pair it with skinny black denim or leatherette leggings and it will seem trendy as opposted to overly distracting.  Careful girls, this top will cost you, but if you utilize some things you already own, the charge won’t feel so intense!
